Go for it, and no matter what happens on the trip, just accept it as part of the adventure. You'll be able to handle anything that comes at you, and the worst that could happen is you'd have to finish the trip on a trailer. If you have the time and the bux, go for it now, as the chance may not present itslef again in your lifetime and you'll miss out. Don't go through life thinking "woulda, coulda, shoulda"!
