I've had the seat out replacing the gas gage sending unit. Directly under the seat is the gas tank but there is some space between the back of the seat/gas tank support and the back of the cab but there is nothing back there. I'll need to come up with a box or something to put it in because I didn't see any type of fixture to secure it. Kind of inconvenient to get to because the back of the seat doesn't fold. It has hooks that hang on slots on the back wall of the cab.
Your buddy with the 37 really was lucky!
