I think everyone but Chev used a kick down switch under the gas pedal. They are available NOS as well as reproductions. One of them could either be mounted under the gas pedal or installed somewhere on the throttle linkage. But there nothing wrong with a toggle switch. I had toggle switches on most of my overdrives.
