I have the cam out of the engine to replace a broken thrush collar. I have read that the fiber timing gears can blow apart. This one looks in excellant shape, it may even have been replaced at some time. I am wondering if it should be replaced since it is out. The oil passage has been cleaned so I know the gear will be lubricated. Should it just be replaced for safety reasons or not a worry. From what I can tell, the biggest cause for the gear to go bad is lack of lubrication.
