You need to be measuring air pressure at the gun with the trigger pulled wide open. What ever pressure the manufacture recommends is at the gun running wide open. If your gravity feed gun is a HVLP unit it will probably only call for 10# at the air cap but that is not a measurement that is normally checked. I am no painting expert but I have made very possible mistake, some several times, and that is what worked for me.
