By the way, throw out the ammeter. they are a bad idea, unnecessary and a PITA. Get a voltmeter if you like to watch electricity flow, they are wired parallel as opposed to ammeter wired in series. They are safer, need no current and tell you if the battery is charging which is what you want to know. Install after you figure out what's wrong. Take the ammeter out (bypass) while doing this trouble shooting. You can unwire it and leave it in the dash if you want the look. They are a dangerous fire starter.
