Prior to starting the clean up, start the engine and run it for ten minutes. Caked on grease will soften when it gets hot.
Remove the air cleaner and spark wires and wrap the carburetor and distributor with a plastic bag, secured with electrical tape, to ensure that no water gets in.
Power wash the engine, either at the car wash or with your power washer to dislodge the bulk of the grease, grime, oil and accumulated dirt. Let it set for a few minutes to evaporate some of excess water, then apply a liberal amount of:
Gunk
Meguiar's Extra
Easy Off oven cleaner
Simply Green
Industrial Purple
dry powder laundry soap (one wet frame & scrub brush)
Kerosene (if all else fails, the engine is cool and you have some stubborn areas,due to volatility)
Let it set for a few minutes and use a paint brush that have the brisles cut down, to work the areas. Power wash again and remove excess water with a wet/dry vacuum. Remove the water in tight spots with an air nozzle.
Remove the plastic bags, install the spark plug wires and air cleaner. Your engine clean up project is complete.
