I’m not a real big fan of plastic fillers in the first place but they are necessary when working with
old sheet metal that has been bent and straightened time and again. There really are limits to
what you can do with a hammer and dolly. I still prefer lead where the repair is subject to
stress such as near a hole for a fastener or a section that will flex.
Of course plastic does have it’s place and I’m finding a few on the old ’50. On the nose
of the fender right over the headlight a previous dent was punched out using a ball-peen
hammer. After bringing down the 30 or 40 nice new round dints that they made attempting to
pound out the original dent, I've got it about as flat as I'm gonna get it and
I'm gong to have to level it some with a little of the Evercoat filler.
