Carter built the carburetor to replace the Rochester. Thus you use the original spacer block BUT the CARTER gasket between the carburetor and the spacer. You DEFINATELY have a gasket between the carb and the spacer.

As to what goes under the spacer, I don't know. Some applications have a gasket, some do not. Maybe someone has a Chevrolet MPB and can check.
