I'd never trust wire brushing to clean any pitted areas well enough to prevent the return of rust, especially deep pitting - careful sand blasting, phosphoric acid &/or rust converter is needed ... if areas are deep enough, some weld could be laid in and ground down as in filling holes, or if you want to learn a new skill, try leading, otherwise you're down to body filler
