I would go with hotshoe36's advice & clean & set the points as a start, then the coil HT lead (the one in the centre of the distributor cap) will throw a blue spark at least 1/2" if taken out of the dist. cap & held out to the engine block, with the key on & the motor cranking, assuming the coil is OK. If the spark is weak doing this, then as suggested, the coil could be failing.
After that you will have eliminated spark. Timing would still need to be checked but it would need to be a long way out to not run at all.
