I went with a new tank, just because I wanted to avoid the grief of being stuck on the side of the road (again.) Both local shops said they "no longer do" gas tanks because of problems later on.
I opened my tank up, and you can't see much because of the baffles, and I can see why trying to clean and seal it could be hit-or-miss. So, wide range of opinions and experiences here....hope whichever way you go works!
