I've been having some trouble with one of the old beasts... Yeah, I know, that's what I get for owning a Ford!
At any rate, the old flat-head has both a mechanical and electric (6 volt) fuel pump. The electric is in the fuel line between the mechanical pump and the tank. The mechanical pump is on the block and between the electric pump and the carb.
I believe my mechanical pump has been going south on me for a while, as previously, I could run the engine just fine on the electric, but it sporadically cut out on the mechanical pump, once it's warm.
Now the question... Running it set up like this, if the mechanical pump were to go completely out, would/could it prohibit fuel from getting from the electric pump, through the mechanical pump, and into the carb?
I'm just working on theory now and awaiting your responses. If this doesn't pan out, I guess I'm gonna have to check out the rest of the fuel and ignition system.
