There's a can-shaped part plugged into the block under the intake manifold that was intended to prevent oil from being blown out of the road draft tube that was once used for crankcase ventilation. If there's an adapter on the outer hole with a hose going to the breather, the PCV valve is probably plumbed into the oil filler pipe at the front of the intake. Connect the PCV to the fitting at the rear of the block, and use a vented oil filler cap in a valve cover to let ventilation air into the engine. The canister under the manifold can be removed and soaked in solvent, or just heated with a torch to burn the sludge out of it. We used to clean them by pouring in a few ounces of gasoline and setting them on fire on a gravel driveway. Jerry
