Question for ya. I found a 40lb sandblaster on Craigslist that I will likely buy. I'm trying to save money by doing most of the restoration by hand, however keep in mind I'm an amateur. Never done this before. I've read about sandblasting and it seems like soda blasting may be my best bet here because it cleans and deodorizes as well, taking everything back to it's bare surface. Any suggestions or comments on this? And can regular soda be used in any sandblaster? Are the all pretty much general "media" blasters? I'm thinking the soda would be better too, because the media is cheaper than the sand, which I'd probably have to sift through and try to reuse. Soda doesn't matter if we do it outside and it can make a mess out there.
Keep in mind, that most of the paint is/will already be removed, this is just to decrease my sanding by hand of the surface rust and grime. So no need for the super abrasive stuff.
