I ran into the same problem— couldn't find anyone with replacement parts in stock. It's such an oddball size! Thankfully I had a friend on The ChevyTalk message board send me a used on in great condition as mine was pretty banged up.
Stepping up to 1/2" makes sense, I wish I had thought of that earlier!
