The cap isn't turned too much. The two spring clamps still hold the cap down, the clamps just fit to one side of the molded "shoulders" The PO ground down the small ridge on the side of the shoulders.
When I had the truck at the shop last week, we saw that the rotor was out of alignment so he turned the distributor to line up with the rotor but then the truck would not crank.
Could the cam be installed incorrectly or even the flywheel? Certainly is a mystery.
