I would bet the ethanol has something to do with along with the weather conditions. if the icing doesn't cause a problem, the only draw back would be rusting of the carb base and general dirt collecting on the wet intake. The exhaust heat should take care of most of it, but even with heat, in the right condition it can happen to any carb.
On some nights, my race car would shut off each pass just after the finish line due to icing. I was running 100% methanol at the time, so the cooling effect was way worse. Its still kinda cool to open the hood and see ice on a engine in the middle of summer!
