I think the easiest thing to do is remove all the spark plugs (so you're not turning against compression), then use the fan blades to turn the engine. You usually have to push down on the belt with your other hand to prevent it from just slipping, but it usually works.
BTW, don't forget to take it out of gear first, like I did once . . . DOH!
