it all starts with what you're tryin to accomplish Zach, wasn't much "comfortable" about driving these ol trucks, so I'd say your rod builder was thinkin along the lines of "upgrading", as Houston is - if you want an "original" truck, start with cleaning everything well and checking out the condition of springs, shackles, steering gear, brakes, make sure it's safe and will handle the road as designed .... lots of folks here to help with the details when you get stuck
