Some time in the near future I am going to rebuild the 283. The SM 420 transmission is bolted to the crossmember, they say it is very heavy and there is no way to pull it out attached to the engine. If there is anything wrong about what I just said, please let me know. My plan is to remove the intake manifold, heads and then pull the block with bell housing and fly wheel. How does that sound so far? When I put the block on an engine stand I will remove the bell housing and fly wheel first. Then I will be able to take apart get any machine work done that is needed and so on. Any and all input is appreciated--especially the tips that will save time, trouble and stress.
