When I switched from the idiot lights to Dolphin gauges for my 235, I just bought a sending unit from the flaps. I think the application was for a 283 of that era. There is just a wire from the gauge to the unit. It reads at 170 once warmed up. I have yet to check accuracy, but I think it's close as my truck runs cool.
