Hurray for LMC truck! My flywheel ring gear came today, I ordered it Sunday. The teeth ARE the same on both side. I still wouldn't be comfy with the worn teeth on the other side as the interior ring has to fit well. So anyway, as soon as I got home tonight I found it in the mail. My neighbor, who is building my motor, let me watch him swap it onto my flywheel. It took about 20 minutes. He starts by cleaning the used flywheel with brake cleaner. Then he set it in his mill and cut thru the old gear little by little. He then took it off the mill, gave it few taps and BOING, off snaps the gear. No hammering or harm in any way to the flywheel. To put the new gear on, he cleaned out the groove in the flywheel for the gear VERY thoroughly. The he set the gear on a tripod of sockets and warmed it up with his torch. While it was still hot he picked it up and set it right on the flywheel just like that. Rotated it so the stamped letters were above the timing mark and further lightly tapped the gear all the way around with a small brass hammer. It cools down and just like that it's done. Pretty cool. When I get my 2 groove balancer, I will bring it with the flywheel, crank, timing gear, cam gear, and new pressure plate to the machine shop to get balanced.
