Hey fellows,Ray K here ; I ran into a little snag & I need some info. I just got a 1973 small block 400 motor,standard pistons & bearings. Was gonna rebuild & put in 64 LWB. It has a 283 w/#7 busted piston. The 400 had an automatic trans. behind it.I'm going with a 3 on a tree. Was told the 400 was externally balanced. The 283 & 350 internally balanced. The back of the 400 crank has a dowel pin to line-up the flywheel.Does external mean the harmonic balance & the flywheel does the balancing? If so will a flywheel( clutch & pressure plate type) for the 400 do the balancing, provided of course that the new flywheel is balanced at the shop. Are the cranks that different on the 283 & the 400? Any advice & info will be appreciated. Thanks again Ray
