Don't use lye on a carbuetor! It is very corrosive to aluminum.
Any of the commercially available carb cleaners will work, most are available in a bulk quanity, usually a gallon can, at the local parts stores. Some farm stores, like Tractor Supply, also carry bulk carb cleaner.
