The 235 was only available in cars with auto trans in 53' as 3B points out. I am not sure what you are describing as the "oil canister" unless it is the optional bypass filter used on many cars and some trucks. You can look in the Tech Tips at the top of our Homepage and find a ton of info (pictures too) on oil filters. Hope this helps.
