Thanks, all. Well, I don't know if I done good or not ... after a half hour of talking and looking at everything at Home Depot, I came home with Premium Waterproof Silicone II. It adheres to glass and to metal.
I put enough in the channel so that a boat-load squished out when I pushed the glass in. I cleaned off the excess and now I'm letting it set overnight.
The setting tape from Classic Parts is now in the garbage where it will do the most good.
