Great Rusty maybe I should re-label that photo for anyone that might reference it in the future.
Scot, take a look at the two links that I posted earlier. The thermostatic spring should unwind and even come off the peg, that's normal; this allows the weight to open the deflector valve route the exhaust out its normal path. If the weight is not rotating counter-clockwise (from the front looking back) then there is some obstruction in the exhaust manifold. Either the shaft is rusted in the casting or there is carbon buildup inside.
