I put a chrome cover on about 2000 miles ago. A buddy of mine recommended this;
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v228/Avette4me/Temporary/DSC00102.jpg Permatex high tack gasket sealant. It’s kind of messy but with a shot of carb cleaner when you’re done cleans it up nicely. It's held up well with no leaks.
For what it’s worth, I bought my cover from Patricks. It’s likely foreign, but is decently heavy and has been good so far - as I said, no leaks.
