The 250 would be a good choice as the V-8 has exhaust clearance problems. Most 55-72 V-8 or the 63-72 bell houseings will fit the 54 chassis & either v-8 or 63 up 6 cyl. engines. Some have a larger hole for the trans collar but most will fit your trans.
