is it the mechanical gauge or electric?
first thing to do is use yer wifes candy thermometer in the rad and see if "warm" is above 120 or so - if not, might be the thermostat is opening too soon?
got a hot plate or electric kettle?
take it out to the truck, put the sender in it, boil some water
gauge still don't move, send it back
