I used a solid rod on the 58 with a 350 and Holley 650. I had it adjusted to give full throttle, this removes most of the play in the system. With the th350 in Drive and stopped at a stoplight the engine starts to increase RPM. I have to really mash on the brake to keep it stopped. Shifting to N and the engine RPM goes back to idle. This happens several times before I figure out that the engine torque is advancing the throttle. I had to back the throttle off to give some play in the linkage, this solved the problem. Just a hint if you have the problem. It is a little unnerving when the truck wants to take off on it's own.
I used a kit for the conversion from a 235 to the 350. Tried the cable but converted to the rod.
