I think you're right. It may be that seeing the gas became a red herring.
I do get an accelerator shot when I hit the gas.
I have good vacuum, but there could be a leak in the 2 speed rear end system, I'll check that.
I plan on adding an HEI distributor, which also may solve the problem if I'm getting too much gas out of the accelerator pump.
PS. Jim Carter truck parts has some cool stuff. I found a short shaft water pump that'll let me move my radiator back to it's original position
