I have a numbers matching 57/58 Corvette 283/283, Fuelie headed, power pack running engine you can have for $4500 grin But I would put in a 350 if I were you. 348 will also be period correct but a parts problem ($$$$). They sure look cool. BTW a 348 and 409 are very similar, fastest way to tell, take the 9 in 409 and turn it backwards and make a p = passenger side dip stick. 348, driver side dip stick. Not a foolproof method, the pans can be interchanged, best way, of course, is by the numbers. Remember, this is a big block. (the first BBC).
Chevy had/has a 4.56 ratio rear end and of course 4.11 but those are not cruiser/hiway ratios, those are drag ratios,(tire burner) you want 3.42 or 3.73. Are you sure it's 4.57?


3.73 is the old "street and strip" gear set.
Tire size and tranny, play a big roll also.
