Right on Denny, Lycoming, Continental, Franklin light aircraft engines are very old unimproved technology. They typically turn slow (Cont. O-200cid, 100hp@ 2700 rpm) with comparitively large displacement ( Lycoming O-320cid 140, 150,160hp). I can't recall any small airplane engine that turns more than 3000rpm.
