It sounds like you are half interested in originality and half not. In my opinion, if you stick with an original scheme, you can't lose. There was quite a variety of colors and two tones available, if you use the period sales literature for reference.
Below, I picked this excellent compilation of sales lit done by another truck fan and refer to it often. I'm sure he won't mind if I pass it along. Lots of burbs in there, including turquoise/white and red/white too.
