Like Waldo say's it probably is normal. When the bat is fully charged there is no curent flow & the gauge stay's in the middle. If you turn on the lights It will go to discharge at idle & if you accelerate it will go back to charge & back to the center. A good test is to get a volt meter & put it across the bat. term. on the reg. & ground. Acel. the engine & it should read between 13.8 & 14.5 volts.
