What about the cam retainer plate and screws? One of the screws could be backing out, or both letting the cam walk forward which could inturn let the rods or lifters hit the cam lobes in a odd way.
I would remove all cam driven pieces, lifters, distributor, and fuel pump, then go hunting for the noisy.
