truckernix, that's a great resource, I copied it as well for future reference. Thanks for posting. The pic he posted of the head doesn't show the area between #1 and #2, however the area between #5 and #6 is "smooth" if that tells us anything.

tc, I asked him to post the date codes several days ago, so far he hasn't.

My theory for what it's worth: his car was built in late '49 and they threw in an early "'50" 235 that was built in late '49 and stamped it GAA. Sounds odd I know, but I've already seen quite a few exceptions to what we thought were the "rules".
