Put stat back in and let engine run. Temp guage shot back up to hot. I also left the radiator cap off and watched the water. I had a temp gauge and the water was running at 180 degrees. Now, if the stat opens at 180 would I be able to see the water start to move?
If the needle is pegged all the way to hot,,would the engine be boiling over?
After I turned the engine off, I felt the top hose as well as the 2 hoses to the heater. All three were very hot. The larger bottom one (bottom of radiator) was warm but not that hot.
Is it possible the temp sensor is rated for a different engine? It looks like the old stock ones. Bought it from NAPA.
What I am really not getting is when I ran the engine with the stat out...the temp gauge was fine..I think I will change out the sensor and then run engine that way and maybe run without the stat.
UPDATE: Changed out the temp sensor. The gauge needle runs now just above the middle dot.
