If I hear you right, you took off the the oil pump support piece from the block? . The factory used those headless bolts to discourage removal, as it was line bored after being bolted on. If the piece is the original, you should be fine.You can use good quality allen head bolts,if the originals are chewed up from using a vise grips on them.Use a little sealer on the bolt heads to prevent an oil leak and some Locktite on the threads is a good idea. You need to install the distributer and the oil pump as a guide before tighting the bolts.The distributer should slide in and engage the oil pump easily without forcing it.The oil pump hold down bolt with the point gets snugged down lightly and then the locknut is tightened firmly.Overtightning the pointy pump bolt can bind the pump shaft, not good.
