The conventional procedure to time the engine would require it to be running. Your car ran..now it doesn't.

The procedure you describe above looks more like a static timing procedure.

Your engine would start, so a timing light would have been the order of the day to fine tune that timing.

You obviously need to get back to square one and get the engine running again. Read the Tech-Tips section on this forum, there might be a clear outline on how to time your engine with a light.
