Fitting one of these kits to my brother's '36 truck at the moment.
http://www.classicperform.com/Store/1947_59_Trucks/4754PSK.htm I have one of these setups on my '50 truck already. It works really well. the steering box that goes with this setup is a Saginaw from a later 2WD Chevy truck. the P/S pump is a Saginaw style unit too.
The '36 chasssis is the same width as the 47-55 at the front of the frame where the steering box mounts, making this kit a fairly easy fit with a straight axle; you just need to reshape or remake the steering box bracket where it meets the top edge of the chassis. Would expect that it should fit your '38 in pretty much the same way.
