Hi yall, I,m looking for your input on Power steering for my 38.I will be keeping the straight axle adding disc brakes,283,th350.
Buying everything new is not my thing,unless it is the best option.Any suggestions are appreciated.

Fitting one of these kits to my brother's '36 truck at the moment. http://www.classicperform.com/Store/1947_59_Trucks/4754PSK.htm I have one of these setups on my '50 truck already. It works really well. the steering box that goes with this setup is a Saginaw from a later 2WD Chevy truck. the P/S pump is a Saginaw style unit too.

The '36 chasssis is the same width as the 47-55 at the front of the frame where the steering box mounts, making this kit a fairly easy fit with a straight axle; you just need to reshape or remake the steering box bracket where it meets the top edge of the chassis. Would expect that it should fit your '38 in pretty much the same way.

I used a Toyota power steering set up for an '82 4x4 pick up.
It was not a direct swap but it was close, I had to fabricate some parts to make it work plus I also used another original column that I bought just for that purpose

Do you mean a original 38 column ? I intend on installing a v8 so the box must move but I have herd of using these boxes. Got pics?

I don't remember if it was a 38 column but it was that vintage. I also have a 250 inline 6 cylinder for an engine. sorry no picks never even thought about taking any. something I real do like about the toyota set up is it has a separate pump and reservoir. If I remember I will try and take some tomorrow and try and post them for you
