maybe someone replaced them with whatever, like you're thinking of doing? any hub piloted lug nuts I've seen have an integral washer, like seen
in Griggs tip to avoid galling the wheel - he might have some comments about it, but I'd talk to a truck parts place and make sure you're using the right thing
