For a gas engine do not exceed 64" ctr/ctr and that is with a large diameter tube, the bigger the better for length. Diesel trucks with slower turning engines can be longer but best to assume 4000 RPM or more for a gas engine. There will be a limit on the tube size depending on the joint series/size. I'd used 1310 or 1350 Spicer for a longer 1 pc shaft in your truck which is likely larger than it was built with.

Always a good idea to talk to the local driveline shop before jumping in as there is a lot of bad advice out there. Use a tube /yoke [censored]'y as the starting point so there will only be one weld involved. Some guys will try to bill you for two welds. I did this kind of work for many years and owned a driveline shop so I do have some degree of knowledge of this.
