The points tell the plug wires to spark. If I understand what you are trying to say your test was, there would be no "spark". The juice from the coil to the distributor is constant and the points "break" it. The coil plug wire would not spark under the condition described.
The condenser stores that juice for the extra oomph to the plugs. My bet is on the points and/or the condenser as Hotrodlincoln says. You could still have a bad coil and that can be tested with a volt/ohm meter. I did find
