I forgot to tell you that I am postive I do not have a 292. I just received the pushrod gaskets I had ordered for a 292 and they were far too big.
I just went back out and cleaned the numbers real good with contact cleaner and examined them with a magnifying glass. I compared the first number to another 3 on the block. There is a strong possibility that it is a 3 and a very poor one. One has to consider that all it takes is one grain of sand in the casting to mess up a number like this. If I scratch it with my fingernail it feels like there is a little portion missing that would cause it to be a 3. So I will go with that and say it is.
