The difference in 10W30 and 10w40 is not that the 40 is thicker or heavier. There are good threads on this site that explain it so much better than I can I suggest you look them up in our feature found in the Search header bar above. But do look it up as you'll find that it won't solve your problem and you'll learn some things about oil.
There are sychros for 2nd and 3rd gears but none for 1st or reverse. Cruising would indicate 3rd gear on a 3 speed.
I don't know if 62's had a single piece or 2 pc. driveline so if you cannot find a carrier bearing then it obviously has a single piece.
