I am not familiar with 270's but rather doubt that a woodruff key would be any different than other GM engines. It sounds to me as though it may have just been worn to a different shape. Personally I prefer the non-rock flat bottom keys which might appear strange to some if seeing them for the first time. Could it have been a step key?
